Iowa City’s Agape Cafe to offer free Wednesday breakfasts starting Sept. 1
Aug. 30, 2021 1:00 pm
The Agape Cafe at Old Brick in Iowa City will start serving free breakfasts each Wednesday morning beginning Sept. 1. The cafe will be open from 7:30 to 9 a.m. every Wednesday through May 25, 2022. The cafe is located at 26 E. Market St. in Iowa City.
Made-to-order breakfasts will be served both to-go and for dining on the patio, weather permitting.
Due to the recent increase in COVID-19 transmission in Johnson County, breakfast will not be served indoors during September and October. This plan will be updated as conditions change.
Since 1993, the Agape Cafe has been serving free, restaurant style breakfasts to guests. Students at the University of Iowa began the cafe under the guidance of the Episcopal Chaplaincy. Since then, the cafe has become an Iowa City institution for those who may be homeless or food-insecure.
