Iowa City splash pads open Saturday, City Park Pool later
May. 28, 2021 11:33 am
Iowa City’s splash pads will open for the summer on Saturday, while City Park Pool is scheduled for a June 5 opening.
City Park Pool
Parks staff have been working to prepare the 72-year-old City Park Pool for the 2021 season. During preparations, an unexpected crack was located in the surge tank. Repairs are underway, but will delay the pool from making its traditional Memorial Day debut. Once repairs are completed, the pool is expected to open on June 5.
City Park Pool will host several special events throughout the summer, including Pride at the Pool from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on June 19. Activities will include a reading of "Julian is a Mermaid" from one of Iowa City's local Drag Queens. For more information about this event or others visit icgov.org/Recreation.
Private pool rentals for birthday parties, reunions, and other social gatherings will remain unavailable at this time.
Aquatic updates and details including pool schedules and pricing are available by visiting icgov.org/Pools.
Splash pads
Iowa City splash pads will be open daily, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., beginning Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 29, through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6. There is no fee to use the splash pads. Closures will occur throughout the season for weather and maintenance. For more information on pool or splash pad closures, visit Iowa City Parks and Recreation Rainout Line.
