Expanded Hiawatha Public Library’s grand opening is Wednesday
Sep. 17, 2021 7:00 am
The Hiawatha Public Library will have a grand opening celebration on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony and speeches from 5:30 to 6 p.m., along with library tours, treats, and more.
Hiawatha voters in 2017 approved a $1.2 million bond for expansion of the Hiawatha Public Library, at 150 W. Willman St. A $2 million fundraising campaign and $1 million in local-option sales tax from the city of Hiawatha also helped fund the expansion.
The project was to add 13,500 square feet to the 8,500-square-foot library at 150 W. Willman St.
The Hiawatha Public Library recently completed an expansion, which includes a solar panel installation on the roof, as seen in this May 5 photo. A grand opening for the expansion is scheduled for Wednesday. (The Gazette)
