Oct. 12, 2021 6:00 am
HIAWATHA — After nearly two years away from in person events, the American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, has announced the 2021 Cedar Rapids Go Red for Women® Luncheon will return to the community.
This signature event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 12, at DoubleTree by Hilton Cedar Rapids Convention Center. It will feature a silent auction, inspirational survivor speakers, and a keynote address by Fahed H. Al Darazi, MD, a cardiologist with UnityPoint Health.

“The fight to end heart disease and stroke in women is relentless, and since the last in-person luncheon event in December 2019, the American Heart Association has remained committed to raising awareness of the No. 1 killer of women — cardiovascular disease — and funding lifesaving research for women’s heart health,” said Teri Gibson with TrueNorth Companies and the 2021 event co-chair. “According to the American Heart Association, heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases take the lives of more women than all forms of cancer combined.”
“It’s not just about wearing red. It’s not just about sharing heart-health facts. It’s about all women standing together with Go Red for Women — because one in three women die from cardiovascular diseases and losing even one woman is too many,” Gibson said.
“There’s something about the energy that builds when we meet in person for this movement and we’re looking forward to be being able to see one another and continue raising funds for this worthy cause,” said Patti Seda, with Patti Seda Consulting and the 2021 event co-chair.
Since 2004, Go Red for Women has had a profound impact on women’s health. As the trusted, passionate, and relevant force to eradicate heart disease and stroke, through the Go Red for Women movement, the American Heart Association remains steadfast and committed to meeting the comprehensive health needs of women — at every life stage.
The Go Red for Women Luncheon is designed to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death for women in the United States, as well as generate funds for lifesaving cardiovascular research for women. The Go Red for Women Luncheon has been happening in Cedar Rapids for 18 years.
