ArtiFactory talk on hot stamped foil imaging exhibit is Sunday
Nov. 17, 2021 6:00 am
The ArtiFactory will present a talk on the unique printmaking process of Hot Stamped Foil Imaging as part of its “Art in the Afternoon” series on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the ArtiFactory gallery, located on the lower level of 120 N. Dubuque St. in Iowa City. Artworks created using that process are on exhibit in the gallery through Dec. 19.
Hot stamped foil imaging was invented at the University of Iowa by longtime Art Department faculty member Virginia A. Myers, creator of the Iowa Foil Printer. The late Prof. Myers was a distinguished teacher and artist whose invention brought recognition not only to her but to the University of Iowa School of Art.
The presentation will be given by local artist and former UI instructor Deanne Wortman, who served as studio assistant to Myers and taught foil imaging after Myers retired. Wortman will discuss its history, show examples of work by her and Myers’ students, and premiere new creations by participants in a Foil Imaging workshop she recently taught at ArtiFactory.
Both exhibit and talk are free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Dec. 19. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m. Due to safety concerns, gallery visitors will be limited to 20 at a time. Masks are required.
