SeeMore should see more sales soon, because Johnson's prowess with his flat stick was dazzling Sunday afternoon.
The Cedar Rapids native made three birdie putts of over 20 feet on the back nine holes at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, and won the PGA Tour's Crowne Plaza Invitational by three strokes.
Johnson's final-round 6-under-par 64 gave him a tournament-record 21-under-par total of 259. He needed just 26 putts on Sunday.
"I just remained patient," Johnson said. "Going in the back nine, my mind frame was, ‘I don't care if I win this golf tournament, or I don't care if I lose it. I'm content with whatever happens. I'm going to go out fighting, and I'm going to go out aggressive.'
"Outside of missing a few fairways I played pretty solid on the back nine."
It was his seventh championship in seven years on the Tour, and third in the last 20 months in Texas. Johnson's last win had been a little over a year ago at the Texas Open in San Antonio.
"I was trying to force things for a period there," he said. "I was too concerned about Sunday on Thursday just because I felt my game was in good condition. I felt like I should be able to contend and win, and rather than letting it happen."
The victory was worth $1,116,000. It shot him from 72nd to 14th on the Tour's FedExCup points list. His best finish in 2010 had been a tie for 12th at the Sony Open in January.
Johnson had seven birdies Sunday, five on the back nine. He moved to the top of the leader board with a 22-foot birdie putt on No. 12, and followed it with another 22-footer on the next hole.
He bogeyed No. 14 to slip into a tie for the lead with Brian Davis, but snapped right back with a 25-footer for birdie on 15. He had a fairly vigorous fist-pump after his 14-foot birdie putt on No. 17 gave him a two-shot lead, which he held before the second weather delay of the round.
After the 46-minute interruption, Davis missed a 9-foot birdie putt on 17 to stay two strokes behind Johnson. Johnson reached the green of the par-4 18th in two shots, then two-putted from 21 feet to secure the victory. Davis bogeyed the final hole to finish three shots back, alone in second.
This was the first of four straight tourneys Johnson will play, culminating with the U.S. Open in Pebble Beach, Calif. This week he will play in Jack Nicklaus' Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio.
He'll have a hard act to follow after a 64-64 on the weekend at Colonial, and with just three bogeys in 72 holes.
Johnson joined Phil Mickelson as the only players with PGA Tour wins in each of the last four years. It got Johnson a plaid tartan jacket to go with the green one he won at the Masters in 2007.
Previous winners at Colonial include Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson and Phil Mickelson.
“Knowing the gentlemen who have donned this jacket, putting myself in that company is very humbling,” Johnson said.
