-- At WR, Trey Stross is ahead of Derrell Johnson-Koulianos for the first time this season. You guys saw the Illinois game. Iowa coaches might want to start working on getting Brodell a medical hardship waiver. He's carrying all the weight for this group.

-- With Wes Aeschliman presumably out for the year with the dislocated hip, Dan Doering flipped over to backup RT behind Kyle Calloway. Rafael Eubanks is listed ahead of Seth Olsen, who could be back this week after missing two games with a sprained ankle. (EDIT: Olsen's return is not a slam dunk. He is still limping, so it's a wait-and-see through practice this week.) Walk-on Kyle Haganman is now behind Bulaga at LT. Also, guard Andy Kuempel, who started the last two weeks in place of Olsen, is not listed on the two deeps. He suffered a separated shoulder in the second half of Illinois. He might be able to play Saturday.

-- SS Harold Dalton is done after his arrest this weekend. Reportedly, the fifth-year senior has already been officially removed from the team, with the leadership committee (a players' group) weighing in. He pleaded guilty to three alcohol charges Sunday. He was tazed during a Sunday morning altercation with Iowa City Police. He was tazed, bros. True freshman David Cato moved into his spot on the second team behind Tyler Sash. Did you guys notice the passing combination for safeties? There was one personnel package that had Jordan Bernstine and Shaun Prater as extra DBs, with Diauntae Morrow replacing Sash at safety. Thought that was interesting. This was on definite passing downs.

-- No TE Tony Moeaki. On his TV show last night, Ferentz said the senior/junior suffered a mild concussion. This is the definition of snakebit.

-- Iowa's last win over a ranked opponent was the 10-6 victory over Illinois at Kinnick last season.

-- Iowa has played five overtime games in its history and two of those have come against Penn State.

-- Contrary to last week's result, Iowa's +59 point differential in the fourth quarter is the best in the conference, according to Iowa sports info. The +78 in the second quarter is second-best in the league behind Penn State's +123. These are two more befuddling stats that say Iowa is way better than its 5-4, but it isn't because it is 5-4.

-- Saturday's game features two of the nation's top run defenses. The Lions are No. 11 (99.1) and Iowa is 12th (100.7).

-- Yet another befuddling 5-4 stat, the Hawkeyes are third in the nation in interceptions with 16, behind North Carolina and California both of which have 17. The 16 picks are the most for an Iowa team since 2007 (17). Nine different Hawkeyes have interceptions. It's Mitch King's turn this week.

-- Yet another befuddling stat, the Hawkeyes are tied with Kansas State and TCU for 12th in the nation with the most TD drives of five plays or less (14).

-- RB Shonn Greene is now the only FBS rusher to go for more than 100 yards in nine games this season.

-- Greene has 11 rush TDs this year, tying Ronnie Harmon (1984) for fifth-most in a single season. The 11 rush TDs also equals Iowa's output for the entire 2007 season.

-- Penn State leads the nation in kick returns (29.0), third in red zone offense (94%), fourth in scoring defense (11.11), pass efficiency defense (95.98) and sacks allowed (.78). DE Aaron Maybin is third in the country with 1.22 sacks a game. He's also tied for fourth with 1.72 tackles for loss a game. WR Derrick Williams is eighth nationally in kick returns (31.0).
