Your Missouri State two deeps -- Lomax, Lowery in
Marc Morehouse
Sep. 2, 2013 12:23 pm
The fact that corners B.J. Lowery and Jordan Lomax are in the two deeps means they'll likely play this week against Missouri State (0-1).
That's not 100 percent. The only time the depth chart is 100 percent is when players aren't listed on it Monday morning. So, in NFL terms, let's go with "probable."
Lomax said after the game he had a sore hamstring. It looked like Lowery had severe cramps. He fell to the turf on Jordan Lynch's 33-yard TD pass to Da'Ron Brown in the fourth quarter. Lowery had a track on the ball, but tripped and fell to the turf while Brown gathered an easy TD catch.
Lynch had earlier worked that hole in the zone on the other side of the field for a 21-yard TD pass to Tommylee Lewis.
True freshman Desmond King replaced Lomax, who exited sometime in the mid-third quarter. Sophomore Sean Draper replaced Lowery. King and Draper are on the depth chart this week. King was the only true freshman who played.
Cornerback Reese Fleming sat out of the game with an undisclosed injury. He also missed Iowa's open scrimmage Aug. 17. So, corner depth is on red alert.
-- Running back Michael Malloy also didn't play. No reason given. Possibly an undisclosed injury. He had hamstring issues during camp.
-- Sophomore Jordan Walsh played more than junior Andrew Donnal at right guard, but they did rotate some.
-- Sophomore DE Riley McMinn must not be healthy. He didn't play. Sophomore Nate Meier rotated in for Dominic Alvis. On a few long passing downs, Meier teamed with MLB Quinton Alston as pass rush ends. Meier dumped Lynch on the pass play that ended up being Christian Kirksey's 52-yard TD fumble return.
-- Iowa didn't play any nickel or dime.
-- John Lowdermilk went the whole way at strong safety.
