Why the Insight Bowl was taken off the boards Monday at Las Vegas sports books
Mike Hlas Dec. 15, 2010 1:43 pm
Rumors. That's what drove Nevada casinos' sports books to take down the Iowa-Missouri Insight Bowl matchup of Dec. 28 on Monday afternoon.
"We have a service that sends us information about players who are questionable to play in games and players who are probable," Las Vegas Hilton race and sports book assistant manager Jeff Sherman told me Wednesday afternoon. "The service said it was hearing rumors Iowa could have up to 20 suspensions.
"When you hear of a large number of players (potentially involved), you take it down as a precautionary approach."
The Insight Bowl wasn't back up on the boards as of 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Iowa time, but Sherman said "I'm sure we'll have a line up shortly. It was Missouri minus-1. (With the suspension of Adam Robinson and dismissal of Derrell Johnson-Koulianos) I don't think it will hit (Missouri by) 3. It might be 2, 2 1/2."
