According to Matt Humphrey of the Orlando Sentinel, the best pot-stirrers among college football coaches work in the Southeastern Conference.
His top four controversy-inducers are all SEC guys: Steve Spurrier of South Carolina, Lane Kiffin of Tennessee, Mark Richt of Georgia and Urban Meyer of Florida.
Kiffin hasn't even coached a game for the Vols yet.
Only one Big Ten coach is in Humphrey's top 10 (click here to see his entire list). That's Rich Rodriguez of Michigan.
Gee, it seems like Joe Paterno of Penn State manages to get people worked up over one thing or another every year. Recently, JoePa said the Big Ten needs a 12th school so it could have a football playoff. That got everyone buzzing.
You know Minnesota's Tim Brewster will double up his efforts to break into this list.
But the fact is, the Big Ten does have dull football coaches. OK, dull is harsh. Let's just say they aren't balls of fire compared to their SEC counterparts.
There are no feuds, a la Spurrier vs. Kiffin or Richt vs. Meyer. There is no one who causes the kind of resentment attained by Alabama's Nick Saban.
Paterno is a national institution, yes. But can even you people here in Big Ten country name the head coaches at Indiana or Purdue?
The annual Big Ten football kickoff press conference in Chicago is painful because of a lack of bluster and baloney from its coaches. If only there were one Mike Leach or Mike Gundy to go sidways every so often.
Coach Brewster, the gauntlet has been laid down.
But who do you think is the top pot-stirrer among Big Ten coaches?
