Wake Forest edges Iowa 76-73

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Iowa couldn't close, and it cost them against Wake Forest.
After leading by 18 points in the first half, Iowa fell apart, then rebounded in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. But it couldn't score late and a 3-pointers by J.T. Terrell proved the difference in a 76-73 Wake Forest win.

Wake Forest put together a 27-4 run from the end of the first half through 12:41 of the second half to take a five-point lead against Iowa midway through the second half.

Despite playing much of the first half with its third-string point guard, Iowa's men's basketball team took a 39-27 halftime lead against Wake Forest in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
Iowa point guard Bryce Cartwright, who replaced an injured Cully Payne, had two quick fouls and was out of the game less than three minutes into the first half. He didn't play again.
But the Hawkeyes tightened down defensively and broke down the Demon Deacons in the paint. Iowa scored 22 of its 39 points in the paint.
After Iowa led 23-11, Wake Forest scored on four consecutive possessions to cut Iowa's lead to five points. Then Iowa went on an 13-0 run, highlighted with a pair of Matt Gatens' 3-pointers.
The Hawkeyes (3-3) led by 18 late in the first half, but the Demon Deacons (3-3) rallied with 6-0 run to close out the half.
Iowa sank 47 percent of its shots despite hitting just 3-of-11 from 3-point range. Iowa did force 13 Wake Forest turnovers and grabbed seven steals. Eric May has eight points, including two breakaway dunks. Melsahn Basabe and Devyn Marble had seven points each. Wake Forest freshman J.T. Terrell has 13 points.
