Video -- Iditarod footage: Tough mushing

Mar. 7, 2014 3:41 pm
The 2014 Iditarod is underway, and it's tough stuff.
The 1,000-mile race of dog sled teams has an appeal to me because a few summers ago I stayed in a cabin in Seward, Alaska, that was near the property where Mitch Seavey's Iditarod Racing Team trains dogs for the annual race. I got to go ride aboard one of the sleds and get a good idea of the speed and power of these dogs, which aren't nearly as large as I had imagined.
Seavey, by the way, won last year's Iditarod, his second victory.
This video of 4-time Iditarod-winner Jeff King and his dogs was provided to the Anchorage Daily News (adn.com/Iditarod) by Iditarod Insider (www.iditarod.com.) I've been going to the Daily News' site every day since the race began. I realize that isn't something most of you would do, or that some of you would find this interesting. But what was I going to do today, beat Iowa's basketball loss at Michigan State Thursday night into the ground? There are other things in the world.
