Iowa specifically targeted wide receivers for the 2011 recruiting class. The Hawkeyes picked up two WR commitments in the last two days, according to HawkeyeReport.com.
Monday night, Marcus Grant, a 6-foot-3, 190-pounder from Massachusetts, told Iowa coaches he's in. Tuesday morning, JaCorey Shepherd, a 5-11, 170-pounder from Texas, called Iowa receivers coach Erik Campbell and committed.
The two are Iowa's first recruits for the 2011 class.
Grant visited Iowa's spring practices in March. Last season for Lawrence Academy in Groton, Mass., Grant caught 22 passes for 413 yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed for 349 yards and earned first-team all-conference.
He had scholarship offers from Syracuse and Connecticut.
Shepherd caught 46 passes for 672 yards and seven touchdowns at Horn High School (Mesquite, Texas) last season. He also led Horn's district in punt returns. He earned the District 11-5A offensive newcomer of the year.
Iowa was Shepherd's only scholarship offer, but Texas Tech and Utah were looking, he said.
I've got messages into Grant and Shepherd and will include interviews when they call back.
