According to Rivals.com, the Hawkeyes have received a verbal commitment from Rochester (Ill.) defensive end Riley McMinn, a 6-foot-7, 225-pounder (pictured above, from the State Journal-Register).
Last fall, McMinn led Rochester with 5½ sacks and shared the team lead in tackles for loss (13).
McMinn's high school coach, Derek Leonard, told the State Journal-Register in April that colleges have been attracted by McMinn's combination of size and speed.
“He's always been kind of thin, but I think he could get up to 260 or 270,” Leonard told the paper. “But the big positive is his speed. He shrugs off blocks really well, and he gets to the ball pretty quick for his size.”
McMinn had 11 offers, mostly from Big Ten schools, including Wisconsin.
McMinn is Iowa's 10th commitment for the 2011 recruiting class.
No. 9 was wide receiver/tight end prospect Jake Duzey, a 6-4, 230-pounder from Troy, Michigan.
I have a call into Duzey and will be working on interviews with both players. Check back for more.
