Twitter question: Sandeman in the Insight
Marc Morehouse
Dec. 16, 2010 2:56 pm
Last night, I threw a question out to Twitter: Iowa WR Colin Sandeman gets the Insight start. What numbers does he produce?
Remember, Twitter is 140 characters and so it's a pretty direct exercise.
I'm going to try to do this every once in a while. I appreciate your opinions and participation.
Most answers went toward a similar performance to what Sandeman had in the Orange Bowl last season, when he had four catches for 53 yards and a TD.
Here are your Twitter answers:
@bucketochicken So he had a great week in practice, then? (Reference to Kirk Ferentz's response to the question about why Derrell Johnson-Koulianos didn't get the start at Minnesota. Ferentz said Sandeman had a better week of practice.)
@China_Wall 4/67/0 -- That's receptions, yards and TDs.
@frysportsradio I say he is a decoy in the first half, X-factor in the 2nd half. Think Ed McCaffrey in Super Bowl XXXII. -- I like this answer and reference. I totally forgot about this performance.
@bucketochicken Also, let's go with.... eh, I dunno, 4/47. -- With no TDs.
@Walleser He produced in the Orange Bowl last year who is to say he won't produce this year, things should open up for [Keenan] Davis too.
@ScottRenaud 10 balls, 6 rec, 50 yds and a score. Nothing crazy.
@China_Wall Coker will go for 22/157/3 and 2/8/0. -- Let's save Coker for another Twitter question.
@spudhawk He had a big Orange bowl last year- I say 4 catches 73 yards and 1 TD. I think Keenan is going to be the guy in this one. -- This could happen if Keenan learns the position in the next two weeks (less than that now). Keenan is Marvin McNutt's backup and has been all season. Johnson-Koulianos' spot is an entirely different position.
@JeremyWheelock 10 for 15. 100 yds. 1TD. 1 Assist. 2 Birdies. -- Ohhh, golf.
@kvnrbnsn Thrown to 6 Rec 4 yds 47 with 2 3rd down conversions. -- Like the inclusion of third-down conversions.
@Sanctioning_Agt 4 receptions, 43 yards, 5 looks. No charges. -- Basketball reference.
@GoHawks1123 5/67/1 TD
@ttursidubT I think he'll have a solid game, great hands and very dependable. I'd say five or six catches and maybe a TD.
@bdj79 4 for 46 w a td, 1 carry for 7.
@storminspank Sande goes for 2 catches 17 yards. McNutt and Davis go for more.
@CarverCorner24 Sandemann: 4 reps, 50 yds great role guy . . . will use him for under routes, still use McNutt or Keenan deep.
@dhow4 1 catch 8 yds
@HawkDad3 I'll answer this after the game! -- Fair response! Or not.
@Brad_Meister I suppose that depends on whether or not Don Nordmann has a "better week of practice" than Colin. :-) -- The "better week of practice" comment seems to have stuck.
@IowaRoyal 3 catches 27 yards
@Big_D_Jamz 3 catches for 37 yards
@iowahawkeyes Sandeman will have 146 yards, 3 receiving TDs, & a passing TD to Nordmann on a trick play in the 4th. #optimism -- Optimism is a good thing.
@CaliHawki Sandeman will have 6 catches for 75yds and a TD. I think some forget DJK didn't have a catch after the 1Q of the Orange! -- Excellent point. DJK did get hurt early in the second quarter of the Orange Bowl.
@Three2Ben 217 rec yds w/ 6 tds, 2 td passes on KOK trick plays, and a 54 yd rushing TD off a reverse #ToddOConnor -- This is the high end of optimism. Why not? Health could factor. Hope Sandeman gets a clean bill and a shot to show what he can do.
@thewood31 Re Sandeman - 5 catches 47 yards, 3 punt ret 25 yards. -- From the looks of on the depth chart, Paul Chaney will return punts.
@iahawks550 8 catches for 76 yards and a TD.
@spudhawk His play this season was very good. I don't have him marked down for a single drop but I should check. -- Nothing jumps off the top of my head.
@c_scott_s Won't be big #'s 7 for 49 no TD's but look for key plays for 1st downs mizz is 6th in big 12 in opp 3rd down conversions.
@arebrown 85 rec yards, 1 TD
@itsbensteele Something similar to the orange bowl. Nice player.
@MikeHossa If Gettis is against Sandeman,he might struggle. Going to have to establish a run for p/a, or else spread it out. 3 for 15. -- Good point. UM's corners, Carl Gettis and Kevin Rutland, are very good, team-pillars good. Gettis will make his 50th start in the bowl. Rutland has four sacks as a CB.
@OC_Hawkeye Sandeman's numbers? 2+2 = 4. -- Snark.
@hortonmr Since we won't be able to run the ball, I hope he'll go 4 for 70.
@SchmittDogg Sandeman was big in the Orange Bowl last year so he is capable of producing. I think it comes down to Keenan, Reisner, herman.
@tombuchheim 5 catches for 66 yards and 0 TDs; 1 end-around for 11 yards.
@jimhermes 1 catch 15 yds, 3 drops and two wrong routes. -- I would not put Jim in the optimistic category. I don't see wrong routes out of a fifth-year senior, though.
@WalpolePorkers 5 for 47 yds.
@schrickman Colin Sandeman will get 6 rec for 58 yards. 4 rec under 10 yards and 2 over 10 yards.
@schrickman btw if your animals need a vet in Bettendorf Sandeman dads has a practice in Bett. Our family pet has gone there 15 years. -- Good to know. I have family in Bettendorf.
@the_cooler Better question is why isn't Keenan Davis starting?!?!?!?!? -- Good question. Keenan plays a different position. Could change, though.
@the_cooler Well with DJK gone, it would make the most sense to put him in there now in prep for a Davis-McNutt combo for next year. -- If Keenan is ready for it, it makes sense. In the one time Iowa really counted on Keenan, he came through -- the series after McNutt was hurt against Ball State.
@alxbrkw Insight Bowl= Keenan Davis coming out party?
@nationalhawk 4 catches 35 yards more receiving yards than return yards.
@the_cooler Oops. I meant McNutt-Davis. I've been amazed how we've raved about how polished Davis is yet he disappeared on gameday. -- Fixed!
@JWRobertson 2 rec 23 yds.
@jimhermes It's hard to be optimistic...he's been here forever and never proved otherwise. Agree with Spank, will use other WRs more... -- Fair enough.
@HawkeyeHuddle sandeman gets 5 catches for 76 yds and a TD.
@jacksonpixley 4 reception for 46 yards. Damn you DJK!
_____________
If there's any justice, Sandeman contributes.
He needs to be healthy. Remember, Iowa play-by-play voice Gary Dolphin said during Ohio State that Sandeman had a sprained foot, sprained ankle and turf toe coming out of Indiana, the reason(s) he missed Northwestern.
Thanks for helping out. We'll do this again this week.
