Former Iowa safety Brett Greenwood remains in the UIHC. The last reports were that he had stabilized from an apparent heart attack.
This QC Times story has more details.
Greenwood, 23, was a four-year starter for the Hawkeyes. He joined the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent and was released before the season started.
Jack Bechta, Greenwood's agent, tweeted a plea to be respectful of the situation this morning.
"All, be respectful, considerate, and understanding to the pain of the Greenwood family. Silence and prayer till further news, please."
The official Iowa Hawkeye football Twitter feed posted around 10:30 Friday night. The Iowa football team checked into the West Des Moines Marriott on Friday afternoon.
"Our thoughts & prayers are with #BrettGreenwood and his family."
Longtime Iowa trainer John Streif went back to Iowa City to be with the Greenwoods. On the pregame radio show, Iowa play-by-play voice Gary Dolphin said he hoped to hear an update sometime this morning.
Hang tight, pray, send positive thoughts.
-- It's about 2 1/2 hours before the game. Will be posting updates here until kick off.
-- My colleague Scott Dochterman snapped a pic of the interim Cy-Hawk trophy. Here's a link.
Here's the pic:
-- Iowa is healthy. There was a report last night from HawkeyeNation.com that ISU star linebacker Jake Knott will play today with an injured arm. Knott did take a hit last week against UNI that left him favoring an arm. Wait and see.
-- As of right now, there are no plans for any uniform change in support of Greenwood, but Iowa could put "30" decals on their helmets. That was Greenwood's number at Iowa.
-- NFL scouts here include the Jets, Giants, Bills and Texans. Might be more.
-- Iowa quarterbacks were out on the field throwing to the TEs, a new twist from last season. Tight ends are the twist.
-- Quarterback John Wienke is practicing punts.
-- CB Shaun Prater is out on the field working on his backpedal. Don't worry, he's not working with trainers, just working with managers.
-- Team up next. I'll probably being doing the "Countdown to Kickoff" show on KCRG. Need to leave for that at 10:15.
-- Eric Heft, ISU analyst, said ISU's strength on D is linebacker and secondary. Last year, ISU had 11 sacks.
-- Zach Guyer is ISU kicker today, Heft said he thought. He added that it might come down to Grant Mahoney taking care of the long kicks and Guyer taking care of short kicks.
-- Iowa specialists out. No surprises. Johnny Mullings didn't make the trip. Two kickers, two punters and the ones you'd think.
-- Iowa kicker Mike Meyer has no problems from 39 or 41 into the north end zone.
-- Iowa AD Gary Barta just said on radio that Iowa's thoughts and prayers are with the Greenwood family. No details except his "vitals are stable."
-- Meyer just made a 48-yarder into the south end zone. There's really no wind here today.
-- Freshman QB Jake Rudock has made the trip. No, not playing. Iowa does this with true frosh to give them a taste. Frosh RB Damon Bullock is on the field with the returners.
-- Frosh DT Carl Davis will play a little today. He's missed a significant amount of time because of a knee injury, Kirk Ferentz said on the pregame.
-- OK, I've got to go do TV. Wish me luck. Enjoy the game. I'll be following on Twitter.
This is the overhead flying camera for today's game. It needed a little more set up at this moment. It was upside down and some wires were hanging out. It was weird seeing it so close to the ground.
Temporary Cy-Hawk
This is where the Cyclones enter the field. There are ads inside the tunnel. Thought that was odd, but college football is all about revenue streams.
