-- Spring two deeps, there's some wildness.
Junior Steve Bigach is a No. 2 DT behind Mike Daniel with senior Thomas Nardo holding down the other starter spot. I think Nardo is still a walk-on and is very likely a rhabdo case.
-- Junior walk-on Colin Sleeper, former Solon prep, is listed as the starter at strong safety ahead of Tom Donatell. Senior Jordan Bernstine isn't on the depth chart. He might be out for spring after surviving the rhabdo. (EDIT: Bernstine will be practicing this spring. Sorry, I posted this as Ferentz was speaking. More details emerged.)
-- Christian Kirksey and Anthony Hitchens, both sophomores, are listed "OR" at weakside linebacker.
-- On offense, Adam Gettis and Nolan MacMillan are listed at guards.
-- Brad Rogers, who had a heart ailment that knocked him out of the bowl, is listed as starting fullback. EDIT: Ferentz just said Rogers hasn't been cleared and will be held out this spring.
-- Senior Eric Guthrie is listed as No. 1. EDIT: I should probably tell you what position. He's the punter.
-- All 13 rhabdo cases have been cleared for spring, according to coach Kirk Ferentz.
-- Ferentz also is glad Iowa radio analyst Ed Podolak is out of the hospital after being hit by a car in Arizona earlier this month.
-- Senior wideout Marvin McNutt is listed as punt returner. Junior Keenan Davis is listed as the only kick returner.
-- McNutt, Bigach, sophomore safety Tanner Miller and LB Shane DiBona are all out for spring. (EDIT: Same with TE Austin Vier (back) and Rogers.)
-- Also, Ferentz said in the afterward that they will look at Micah Hyde as a safety this spring. Not sure how seriously.
University of Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz addresses the media on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at the Jacobson Athletic Building in Iowa City. Iowa opened spring practice on Wednesday. Ferentz met with the media and answered questions, once again, about rhabdo. (Liz Martin/SourceMedia Group News)
