'Suspended for the bowl game' is a December staple

It isn't just Iowa, although the suspensions of running backs Marcus Coker and Mika'il McCall for the Insight Bowl aren't great things for the Hawkeyes.
The period of time between the last regular-season game and departing for the bowl destination ... uh oh.
Oklahoma State defensive tackle Christian Littlehead has been suspended for the Cowboys' fiesta Bowl game against Stanford. Littlehead was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Arizona State defensive end Junior Onyeali was suspended for Thursday's Las Vegas Bowl after he was in a shouting match with ASU lame duck head coach Dennis Erickson at Monday's practice in Tempe.
Georgia Tech sornerback Louis Young won't play in the Sun Bowl for disciplinary reasons.
Florida State linebacker Arrington Jenkins was arrested on Sunday and charged with grand theft, accused of stealing a motorcycle. Teammate Avis Commack was arrested in a separate incident two days earlier. Both are suspended from the Champs Sports Bowl.
Purdue wide receiver O.J. Ross was suspended indefinitely Dec. 6 for violating unspecified team rules and is suspended for the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. Boilermaker linebacker Dwayne Beckford was arrested Friday morning on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence. Purdue Coach Danny Hope said there's "a good chance" Beckford won't play in the bowl.
Clemson running back Mike Bellamy has been suspended for the Orange Bowl for violating unspecified team rules.
Auburn running back Michael Dyer has been indefinitely suspended for violating undisclosed team rules and will miss the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
Alabama quarterback Joe Namath was suspended for the Crimson Tide's Sugar Bowl game against Mississippi by Coach Bear Bryant. Wait, that was in 1963. Never mind.
