Shonn Greene's Victory Nap
Mike Hlas Jan. 16, 2011 8:47 pm
Jim Nantz didn't appreciate it. "I've never understood the absurdity of all the self-aggrandizing," he said.
Phil Simms understood it. "It there was a time to celebrate, this was it."
They were talking about the Shonn Greene "nap." That came after the former Iowa Hawkeyes' 16-yard touchdown run that gave the New York Jets a 28-14 lead with 1:41 left in their 28-21 AFC playoff win over the New England Patriots Sunday.
Greene had 17 carries for 76 yards. He was good.
Here's the touchdown and the nap that cost Greene and the Jets a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty.
What do you think about this? I believe I'll write a column about it tomorrow after having a night to, ahem, sleep on it.
When I saw it live, I laughed. But I'm not a New Englander, nor did I have the mortgage riding on the game's outcome.
This wasn't Greene's first act of playoff "playfulness." Here, he mocks the touchdown pose of then-San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson after scoring a touchdown against the Chargers in the 2010 playoffs.
