SASH NAMED TO JIM THORPE WATCH LIST
IOWA CITY, IA - - University of Iowa junior strong safety Tyler Sash has been named to yet another Watch List. The 6-1, 210-pounder from Oskaloosa, IA is a repeat member of the Jim Thorpe Watch List. The preseason watch list includes 35 of the nation's best defensive backs.
Sash, a strong candidate for 2010 all-America honors, was a semi-finalist for the Thorpe Award in 2009. He was a second-team all-American last year and was named to both the coaches and media first all-Big Ten teams.
He was, previously this summer, named to the Lott Trophy and Bronko Nagurski Award Watch Lists. He has also been named to numerous 2010 pre-season all-America teams.
Last season he ranked second in the Big Ten and 11th nationally in interceptions. He already holds the Iowa record for career interception return yards (350 on 11 interceptions). He has 138 career tackles with eight stops for a minus 17 yards. He has started 21 straight games for the Hawkeyes.
Only two other Big Ten defensive backs appear on the watch list and both are from Ohio State. They are Jermale Hines and Chimdi Chekwa.
