Poor defense dooms Iowa in first half at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana shot 54 percent from the field and Iowa had 10 first-half turnovers as the Hoosiers took a 54-37 lead at Assembly Hall this afternoon.
Indiana freshman phenom Cody Zeller scored 16 points and the Hoosiers dominated the boards 24-13. Indiana had 11 offensive rebounds in the first half.
Iowa trailed 32-31 after an Aaron White dunk with 7 minutes, 4 seconds left in the half. Indiana Coach Tom Crean called a timeout, and the Hoosiers regrouped. Indiana then went on 18-5 run and scored on 11 of its final 12 first-half possessions.
Matt Gatens led Iowa with 12 points. White added nine.
Iowa flipped its starting lineup, benching Melsahn Basabe and Eric May for Bryce Cartwright and White. Cartwright made one free throw and had one rebound, six assists and five turnovers.
