Pat Angerer leads NFL in tackles ... by a lot
Mike Hlas Sep. 26, 2011 11:15 am
Pat Angerer still has a very good name for a linebacker. And, he's still a very good linebacker.
Ex-Iowa Hawkeye and second-year Indianapolis Colt Angerer had 21 tackles Sunday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers. That's kind of a lot.
But the underdog Colts lost in overtime, 23-20.
"We just want to win, man," Angerer said. "There's definitely no moral victories."
Now, tackle numbers can be misleading. How much time does your defense spend on the field because of your offense? How much time does your defense spend on your field because of your defense?
But if you saw the Steelers-Colts game, you know. Angerer was all over the place, helping lead an Indy defense that played a great game. It would be no surprise if Angerer is named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Angerer has 42 tackles in three games, 11 more than the player in second-place, linebacker Sean Weatherspoon of Atlanta. Dallas linebacker Sean Lee has 23 in two games, and his team plays Washington Monday night.
Indianapolis middle linebacker Gary Brackett couldn't play because of a left shoulder injury, so Angerer moved to the middle from his strong-side spot. It worked out.
