Sherrill driver Tyler Soppe is the third different driver to be named The Gazette's Eastern Iowa Driver of the Year, joining Justin Kay (2014-15) and Tony Olson (2016). Soppe was named Driver of the Year based on a panel vote (Jeremiah Davis, The Gazette; Bucky Doren, K985.com; Jeff Broeg, PositivelyRacing.com; Jerry Mackey, Farley Speedway Promotions; Inside Track Fan Vote where three points were awarded for a first place vote, two for second, one for third). His one-point edge in the panel vote over Justin Kay was the closest vote in DOY history.
