Here's the weekly installment of "Notes from HawkeyeReport.com . . ." Many thanks to HawkeyeReport.com's Tom Kakert for the updates. Iowa has opportunity on the D-line, and those visits are starting to line up.
The Iowa defensive line has had its hands full early this season. While the 2012 recruiting class can't offer assistance this year, it can certainly see the opportunity for early playing time next fall.
That's certainly the sales pitch being offered by the Iowa coaches right now and, thus far, they have two prospects who've said yes.
Iowa currently has verbal commitments from defensive tackle Jaleel Johnson and defensive end Drew Ott. Johnson, a Lombard, Ill., native, is a stout 6-foot-2 and 277 pounds. Ott, 6-4, 235 pounds from Giltner, Neb., is still being recruited by the Cornhuskers.
Iowa will likely sign at least two more defensive linemen and one of those prospects will be on campus this weekend. Nate Lohn, a 6-3, 265-pound powerhouse from Kansas City, Mo., will make his official visit this weekend. Later this month, he's scheduled to visit Stanford and also is considering Michigan State.
Other upcoming Iowa City visitors include thee-star prospect Trace Clark, a 6- 5, 240-pounder from Wichita, Kan. He'll be on campus the Oct. 14 weekend. The following weekend, defensive tackle Aaron Curry, a 6- 3 and 275-pounder, will make his way up from Keller, Texas. He's also scheduled to make an official visit to Boise State later this month and has a trip planned to Ole' Miss in the October.
Faith Ekakitie, a 6- 2, 255-pounder from Lake Forest, Ill., is another D-line prospect to watch. While he hasn't scheduled any visits, Iowa is in his top six schools and he says he will take an official visit.
