Marc Morehouse
Oct. 11, 2009 11:05 pm
Iowa had to wait three weeks for tight end Tony Moeaki's left foot/ankle to heal. It was worth it.
The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder from Wheaton, Ill., caught six passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns (34, 42) in No. 11 Iowa's 30-28 victory over Michigan on Saturday night, earning him the Big Ten's offensive player of the week.
Moeaki is the sixth Hawkeye to earn a Big Ten POW honor this season and the first of Moeaki's career.
Moeaki also earned tight end of the week by the College Football Performance Award committee.
It's the fifth week out of six that one Iowa player has been named Big Ten POW. Adrian Clayborn won the special team award and linebacker Pat Angerer won defensive honors following the win over Penn State. Punter Ryan Donahue shared the special team honors against Arizona, while linebacker Jeremiha Hunter won co-special team honors after the Northern Iowa game. Defensive back Tyler Sash won co-defensive honors after Iowa's win at Iowa State.
The Hawkeyes (6-0, 2-0 Big Ten) travel to Wisconsin (5-1, 2-1) Saturday at 11 a.m. The game will be shown on ESPN.
