McCaffery hopes to get Payne 'back soon'
Nov. 30, 2010 9:07 pm
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery said Cully Payne's surgery on a sports hernia was successful on Tuesday.
"When we were on our way over (to play Wake Forest), he was still in recovery," McCaffery said. "It went well. They found some things that needed repairing, so I'm happy for him. Nobody should have to be in the kind of discomfort he was in, so I'm pleased that they're going to fix what was wrong."
Payne, a sophomore point guard, will miss an undetermined amount of time following the surgery. McCaffery originally said Payne would be out 6-to-8 weeks.
"Hopefully we'll get him back soon," McCaffery said.
Payne started 37 consecutive games before the injury was revealed.
