AMES - Jameel McKay vowed not to have second thoughts this time.
The prized 6-8 forward who transferred to Marquette from Indian Hills Community College, then left the Golden Eagles last month, said Tuesday night he'd settled on Iowa State as his next - and final - college basketball destination.
“(I'm) as excited as I've been in my life, honestly,” said McKay, who plans on arriving in Ames next month. “I know in my heart and my head I made the right decision this time. I just can't wait.”
He'll have to in terms of games.
McKay will not be eligible to play until the second semester of next season, but he'll be far from inactive.
“I'm coming there to show skills that not everyone knew I had, but (Cyclone) coach (Fred) Hoiberg saw,” said the junior from Milwaukee. “I'm going there to just play different - a different variety, especially since I'm sitting out this year. By the time I get back next year, people will understand some of the things.”
Hint: It goes beyond his obvious talent for rebounding.
“That's the plan,” McKay said.
