37-6 Iowa
Here's a tweet you need to know about:
@Spartan_Radio I'm proud to be a Spartan. Better than being a Hawkeye any day of the year. Including today.
It's 37-6 with 14:46 in the fourth.
_____
37-0 Iowa
Stanzi hit WR Marvin McNutt, who spun to the outside and found a dead football team.
MSU has come to Kinnick Stadium in a zombie costume.
Stanzi to McNutt for 23 and a TD and Iowa is up 37-0 with 7:35 left in the third quarter.
G Adam Gettis left the game early in the second half and was replaced by fifth-year senior Josh Koeppel.
Before the score, Robinson powered up the middle for a pair of 11-yard gains.
MSU is a zombie unit at this point.
_____
30-0 Iowa at half
Selected stats:
MSU QB Kirk Cousins is 12 of 15 for 90 yards with two crushing interceptions, one of which went to Tyler Sash who then pitched it to Micah Hyde who then took it 66 yards to the pylon for a TD. Iowa also turned Shaun Prater's INT into a TD.
Iowa's defense was the loose wheel last week. It is the hammer this week.
The Spartans have 40 yards rushing on 14 carries (2.9 a carry). Iowa's two interceptions have produced 14 points. The Spartans also have four penalties for 43 yards, including a crushing offensive pass interference on Keith Nichol on a third-and-6 that would've been a first down late in the first half. MSU ended up punting.
Iowa's defense is running through a ton of personnel groups. Walk-on Ross Petersen played in a nickel package. He hadn't played all season. Jeremiha Hunter hasn't played. Jeff Tarpinian has played in coverage. James Morris and Shane DiBona started. Troy Johnson has since replaced DiBona.
RB Adam Robinson has 40 yards on 13 carries and a 2-yard TD that gave Iowa the 30-0 lead with 1:01 left in the half. He also has one recption for a 32-yard TD with 7:05 left in the half.
QB Ricky Stanzi is a spotless 8 of 10 for 144 yards and two TDs. Iowa's TEs Allen Reisner and Brad Herman have combined for five catches and 92 yards receiving.
____
30-0 Iowa
On third-and-1 from Iowa's 39, Stanzi faked handoff to freshman RB Marcus Coker and dropped back to a world of possibilities.
He had fullback Brett Morse wide open in the left flat, but Stanzi wanted TE Brad Herman for a greedy gain. Stanzi threw a horrible ball, but Herman's 6-5, 247 beat MSU SS Marcus Hyde's 6-0, 200 for a 56-yard gain to MSU's 5.
Michigan State bit and bit hard on the run fake.
Just to remind you, this is the No. 5 team in the country. It hasn't gotten off the bus and it might as well stay on.
____
23-0 Iowa
After being burned by slants on consecutive third downs, Iowa CB Shaun Prater got redemption, picking off Kirk Cousins' pass into the wind on third-and-7 at Iowa's 21 and returning it 31 yards to MSU's 43.
Three plays later, RB Adam Robinson released into a pattern and caught a perfect pass from QB Ricky Stanzi for a 32-yard TD and a 23-0 Iowa lead with 7:05 left in the second quarter. Meyer booted the PAT off the left upright.
Robinson beat MLB Greg Jones on the pattern. Jones laid in the end zone for a few moments to reflect.
____
17-0 Iowa
Iowa SS Tyler Sash stepped in front of a Kirk Cousins pass and picked it off. Almost immediately, he turned and pitched to CB Micah Hyde, who ran up the MSU sideline, broke a tackle at Iowa's 20 and dove for the pylon.
After review, it held and it was 17-0 Iowa with 10 seconds left in the first quarter.
Sash was credited with the pick and a 6-yard return. Hyde was credited with a 66-yard return and a TD.
____
10-0 Iowa
The play that fueled this deal was QB Ricky Stanzi's 26-yard scramble on a third-and-9 at Iowa's 18. Adam Robinson and Brett Morse sprung the play with big blocks into an MSU blitz.
Stanzi took a shot from SS Marcus Hyde after he ran out of bounds for a 15-yard unnecessary roughness, giving Iowa first down at MSU's 41.
Robinson was stopped for a 1-yard loss on third-and-1 from MSU's 18. Freshman kicker Mike Meyers booted the 37-yarder into a strong wind.
10-0 Iowa with 2:44 left in the first Q.
_____
7-0 Iowa
Impressive drive. Twelve plays, 80 yards and 6:12 off the clock.
QB Ricky Stanzi was perfect 3 of 3 for 20 yards, including the TD to WR Colin Sandeman from 3-yards. Sandeman beat S Trenton Robinson on a slant for a 7-0 lead with 8:48 left in the first quarter.
RB Adam Robinson slippery'd his way to 23 yards on six carries to fuel the drive.
Iowa, going into a big north wind, saw only one third down. Stanzi hit TE Allen Reisner for an 8-yard gain in from of MSU's Marcus Hyde, brother of Iowa corner Micha Hyde.
____
-- Big breeze out of the north. Will impact kicking game.
-- I've been told MLB Jeff Tarpinian is likely out and that DE Adrian Clayborn is working with a bad wheel.
We'll see.
Game on.
Iowa Defensive Coordinator Norm Parker waves to the fans as he arrives for Iowa's game against Michigan State Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 outside of Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. Saturday was Parker's fist game back at Kinnick Stadium after having his right foot amputated due to complications from diabetes. (Brian Ray/ SourceMedia Group News)
