Meyer tries 42-yard field goal and it's GOOD. Indiana 13-12 after Meyer's career-long FG. If he'd just made one of the shorties ...

THIRD QUARTER (above)
HALFTIME THOUGHTS: Iowa's playcalling inside the Indiana 10 has been a bit befuddling. Stanzi has been nothing close to accurate on the fade routes down there. Coker has torn the Hoosiers asunder, but hasn't really gotten the chance to power in for the touchdown. ... A missed 22-yard field goal by Meyer does nothing to brighten Iowa's spirits. ... Chappell is basically playing on one good foot. Iowa's defense has gotten to him from time to time, but needs to continue the punishment. ... After an interference penalty early, Micah Hyde has done a very nice job at cornerback.
Iowa 5th drive: Starts at Iowa 42 with :50 left. ... Iowa got across midfield, and that was that. HALFTIME, 6-6.
Ind. 4th drive: Starts at IU 20. Personal foul on IU makes 2nd-17 at the 13. ... Punt.

Indiana 3rd drive: Kickoff return to the Ind. 45. Doss' run carried out of bounds and tackled Iowa defensive backs coach Phil Parker, who was unhurt. 3rd-and-11 at Ind 44 turns into first-down with Iowa 5-yd penalty and a pass for 8. ... 1st-and-goal at 9 ... 3rd-goal at 4 ... Chappelle sacked by Mike Daniels, Ewald kicked a 28-yard field goal. 6-6 game with 8:20 left.
Iowa's 3rd drive (cont.) 1st-and-goal at 9 ... 3rd-and-goal at 10 ... 4th-and-goal at 10 ... Meyer 27-yard field goal, Iowa 6-3 with 12:45 left in half. A bust. Three first-downs as Coker and his OL crush the Hoosiers, but too fancy once the Hawkeyes got to the 10.
Iowa's 3rd drive: Starts at Iowa 48. Coker runs for 13. Brad Rogers ran for 5 on his first carry. Quarter ends with a 2nd-6 at Indiana 17.

This is Indiana's home finale. On Nov. 6, with three games left after this. That's sick. But the Hoosiers sold a home game to FedExField in Landover, Md. That's Nov. 20 against Penn State. You want to build interest for your program, it helps to play home games at home.
Two players Iowa will count on today are running back Marcus Coker and linebacker Shane DiBona. The first is a first-year freshman, the second a redshirt frosh. Coker is from Beltsville, Md. DiBona is from Duxbury, Mass.
The National Agricultural Library is in Beltsville. Its history dates back to 1649. Acccording to Wikipedia, Beltsville's history dates back to 1649, when the land was part of an 80,000-acre (324 km2) land grant given to Richard Snowden I by Lord Baltimore of England. Snowden and his family were planters who established large plantations on which they built comfortable manor homes.
The area now known as Duxbury was inhabited by people as early as 12,000 to 9,000 B.C. By the time European settlers arrived here, the region was inhabited by the Wampanoags, who called this place Mattakeesett, meaning “place of many fish.”
In 1620, the English settlers known as the Pilgrims established their colony in Plymouth. Per the terms of their contract with financial backers in London, they were required to live together in a tight community for seven years. At the end of that term in 1627, land along the coast was allotted to settlers for farming. Thus, the coastline from Plymouth to Marshfield was parceled out, and many settlers began moving away from Plymouth.
Another freshman Iowa will count on today is linebacker James Morris of Solon. Solon doesn't have quite the history of Beltsville or Duxbury. It has very good high school football, however.
It's not this warm or populated here at Memorial Stadium as it was the day this photo was shot:
