Iowa's primary representation in the NCAA men's basketball tournament may have to come from Indiana State.
The Sycamores won their way into the NCAAs Sunday with their 60-56 victory over Missouri State in the title game of the Missouri Valley Conference tourney in St. Louis.
1. Jake Kelly. He played two seasons at Iowa (and averaged 11.6 points as a sophomore) before transferring to Indiana State. He tore an ACL midway through last season at ISU, and battled injuries and mono this season. Kelly made two free-throws with 1.4 seconds left to ice the win. He will make his first NCAA appearance next week.
2. Greg Lansing. What a first year as a head coach. Twenty wins and an NCAA trip. He was an assistant on Steve Alford's Iowa staff for seven seasons, from 1999 to 2006. Alford shook up his staff, and Lansing went to Indiana State, where he had been an assistant before he came to Iowa. Lansing is a Harlan native and coached at Des Moines Roosevelt. He's a good guy.
3. Jordan Printy. The junior guard from Marion (Linn-Mar High) scored eight points for the Sycamores Sunday, and was in the game in the final moments. He made three 3-pointers in his team's semifinal upset win over Wichita State Saturday. He is the brother of Iowa women's basketball sophomore Jaime Printy, who leads her team in scoring.
