Iowa's NFL rookies: Tyler Sash impresses a N.Y. Giants beat writer

Adrian Clayborn, the defensive end from Iowa who was Tampa Bay's first-round draft pick in 2011, signed about as soon as humanly possible once the NFL's player lockout ended. Here is how the other rookie draftees from Iowa are situated:
Defensive tackle Christian Ballard (fourth round) could vie for a starting DT spot available alongside Kevin Williams, and Williams could face a four-game suspension from the NFL
Quarterback Ricky Stanzi (fifth round) signed a four-year contract worth @2.2 million last week with the Kansas City Chiefs. Here is a Kansas City Star story on the unusual teaching methods of Chiefs quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn.
Defensive tackle Karl Klug (fifth round) signed with the Tennessee Titans.
Offensive guard Julian Vandervelde (fifth round) signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. He took all the first-team reps with the first team at the Eagles' Monday morning practice.
Tyler Sash (sixth round) has signed with the New York Giants. Sash got kudos from Mike Garafalo of the Newark Star-Ledger after the Giants' Monday night practice. Garofalo wrote:
Speaking of great timing to blow up a run, S Tyler Sash impressed a few coaches when he identified a sweep to his side of the field and quickly came up from his deep safety spot to make the play. If you didn't know any better, by the quick reaction and speed in which he got there, you'd think that guy was a veteran, not a rookie in his third professional practice. That's a good early sign for the sixth-round pick.
Linebacker Jeremiha Hunter (undrafted) didn't practice Monday with the New Orleans Saints because of an Achilles ailment.
When I see news about Brett Greenwood, Ryan Donahue, Andrew Schulze and Jeff Tarpinian (all undrafted signees), I'll report them. I did see Tarpinian had a tackle for a loss in the New England Patriots' practice on Monday.
If you come across tidbits about these guys in their NFL camps, send them to me at mike.hlas@sourcemedia.net.
