Iowa's Cully Payne progressing, but not ready 'to turn it up'
Jan. 29, 2011 5:49 pm
Iowa sophomore point guard Cully Payne is making progress but still is far from playing this year for Iowa.
Payne has missed all but five games this season after he had surgery to repair a sports hernia and torn oblique muscle. Payne likely will red-shirt this year but that's not official.
McCaffery said Payne has been running, taking shots and “does pretty intense workout stuff.”
“He seems to be doing pretty good,” McCaffery said. “He's working out. He has not had any setbacks. That's the positive. But he has not really gotten out on the floor and really tried to turn it up yet.”
Payne started all 32 games last as a true freshman.
Iowa's Cully Payne stands at the edge of the huddle during a timeout in the second period of Iowa's 111-50 win over Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville on Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. (Liz Martin/SourceMedia Group News)
