Iowa State still No. 17 in AP poll, Iowa No. 25

Dec. 16, 2013 10:01 am
Even after its 85-82 loss at No. 17 Iowa State Friday, Iowa remains in Associated Press' men's basketball rankings, slipping just two spots to No. 25.
So it's now a four-week stretch in which the Hawkeyes and (still) No. 17 Iowa State shared space in the poll. Iowa is one of just four states with two ranked teams. The others are Kentucky, Kansas and North Carolina.
Kansas only has three Division I teams. Iowa has but four. Kentucky has seven (counting transitioning-to-DI Northern Kentucky) and North Carolina 18.
Compare Iowa's 2-of-4 in the Top 25 to some other states:
California 1-of-24
Texas 1-of-23
New York 1-of-22
Pennsylvania 1-of-14
Ohio 1-of-13
Tennessee 1-of-12
Illinois 0-of-13
Louisiana 0-of-13
Virginia 0-of-14
But, it seems imminent that Iowa will soon drop to 1-of-4. If the Hawkeyes defeat Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Nebraska at home, then win at Wisconsin at Jan. 5, they will be back in the Top 25.
