Iowa State lands a basketball transfer, loses a football starter
Mike Hlas May. 19, 2010 3:11 pm
Interesting news day out of Iowa State.
The good: Fred Hoiberg has added sophomore guard Chris Babb to his men's basketball program. Babb left Penn State this spring.
Babb averaged 9.3 points for the Nittany Lions last season. He was 69-of-185 (37.4 percent) from 3-point distance and made 81.6 percent of his free throws.
From ISU's press release: The 6-5, 220-pound guard averaged 3.2 rebounds and was third on the team in both assists (69) and steals (22). He had nine games with four or more treys and ended the season making 48.8 percent (21-43 3FG) from beyond the arc in his last seven games.
It had been speculated that Babb, from Arlington, Texas, would wind up at Kansas State.
Babb has to sit out a season under NCAA rules.
The bad: Starting right tackle Scott Haughton has been kicked off the ISU football team.
No details were forthcoming other than it was for "violating team rules." Haughton had started the Cyclones' last 17 games. He is from Sanford, Fla.
