Iowa notes: Bryce Cartwright gets the point, post-Indiana video
Feb. 7, 2011 5:53 pm
Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery said junior Bryce Cartwright's play this season has earned him the job on a more regular basis in the future.
"We've only got him for one more year," McCaffery said. "I think if he was a freshman, that would be a more difficult question to answer. But going into next year, I think he's established himself clearly."
Cartwright, who transferred from Paris (Texas) Junior College in the offseason, ranks third in assists in the Big Ten with 5.48 per game. Cartwright also averages 10.9 points a game.
Cartwright entered the season as the back-up at point guard to sophomore Cully Payne. But five games into the season, Payne was sidelined after surgery to repair a sports hernia.
Payne officially has not been red-shirted, but McCaffery said it's likely he'll remain out for the season.
"I have not been given anything definitive by our medical people. And when I get it, I'll tell you," McCaffery said. "But he hasn't played yet, so I'm willing to bet he's not going to play this year but again that hasn't been determined. We don't have that many games left, so we'll see going into next year where he fits."
TICKET UPDATE
Iowa's athletics ticket office will allow people with unused tickets to last week's Iowa-Michigan State to exchange them for any of Iowa's four remaining home games this year.
Department officials request most exchanges are made before gameday so seats are still available. The new sears will have a seat assignment and is not general admission.
