Iowa must have had a decent football team last season

Let's check the math. A first-round NFL draft pick. A second-rounder. Two third-rounders. Two on offense, two on defense.
You'd take that on your college roster every year, no?
Holy smokes. We knew offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga was a first-rounder. The surprise was that he lasted as long as he did in Round 1.
But I sure didn't know linebacker Pat Angerer was second-round material. I heard he was a bit too small for an NFL team's liking. Seems to me I heard that about Bob Sanders once upon a time, too.
Not coincidentally, the Indianapolis Colts drafted both. Not coincidentally, the Colts have done as good a job in the draft as any NFL club in the last decade.
Cornerback Amari Spievey went very early in Round 3 to Detroit. The Lions, by the way, appear to have stopped decades of blunders with their last two drafts. Spievey could be getting on the ground floor of something very good. And what fun it would be just to play on the same defense as first-rounder Ndamukong Suh.
Then tight end Tony Moeaki went to Kansas City later in the third round. All the quiet one did was battle back from injuries of seemingly every sort in his college career to have a truly terrific senior season.
Is there anybody in Hawkdom who has a bad word to say about Moeaki? In fact, does anyone have a bad word about any of the four Hawkeyes drafted so far? I was around the four of them a lot -- Spievey, not so much -- and never heard any of them brag up themselves.
What makes this a little nicer for Iowa fans is that each member of this foursome was selected by a Midwest team, if you count Detroit as being in the Midwest. Packers/Hawkeyes fans in the region embrace the Bulaga pick. Chiefs/Hawkeyes fans are happy to get Moeaki. Colts/Hawkeyes fans, already thrilled with Sanders and Dallas Clark, add Angerer to their must-buy jersey list.
I don't know any Lions fans, but maybe Spievey can have a role in changing that.
Pat Angerer: Colt
Amari Spievey: Lion
