Iowa falls in Paradise Jam opener

Iowa's men's basketball team shot just 35.3 percent from the field and lost its first game 86-73 to Xavier at the Paradise Jam Classic in the Virgin Islands on Friday.

Matt Gatens returned to action after missing the first two games. He scored 15 points in 27 minutes. He also had three assists and four rebounds. Junior Devon Archie scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in 14 minutes, his first extended minutes for Iowa.

After having two games with 20-plus turnovers, Iowa had only 10. Tu Holloway led Xavier with 28 points.
