Iowa-Creighton men's basketball game in Des Moines next season -- makes sense to me
Mike Hlas Apr. 19, 2011 11:38 pm
The headline tells this story. Sometime in the 2011-2012 season, Iowa and Creighton will have a men's basketball game against each other at the Wells Fargo Arena in downtown Des Moines.
Why not? A legitimate opponent, from the Missouri Valley Conference. Creighton ought to be pretty decent. And it gets Iowa some face-time in central Iowa. Plus, it gets the team in a semi-foreign environment to play what will amount to a home game without traveling too far.
It's forward thinking. Plus, it will be a battle of two good sophomore power forwards in Doug McDermott of Creighton and Melsahn Basabe of Iowa. McDermott averaged 14.9 points and 7.2 points for the 23-16 Jays. Basabe averaged 11.0 points and 6.8 rebounds for the 11-20 Hawkeyes.
It's time the Hawks and Jays meet
