Iowa contributes to Big Ten honors again

For the second straight week, Iowa's opponent gained Big Ten Player of the Week honors.
Ohio State's Jared Sullinger and Purdue's Ryne Smith shared top honors this week and both had big games against Iowa. Sullinger scored 24 points in a five-point win against the Hawkeyes last Tuesday. Smith scored 18 points against Iowa on Sunday in a 23-point win. Sullinger also earned top freshman honors for the eighth time in nine weeks.
Illinois' Demetri McCamey earned the Big Ten Player of the Week Award after scoring 20 points and dishing 10 assists against Iowa on Dec. 29.

Ohio State's Jared Sullinger earns Big Ten Player of the Week honors for the third time and Freshman of the Week honors for the eighth time this season. The 6-9 center recorded back-to-back double-doubles in conference wins against Iowa and Minnesota last week. In Iowa City, Sullinger scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. The Columbus, Ohio, native hit 11 of 20 shots from the floor and recorded two steals. Against the Golden Gophers, the freshman scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Ohio State's 67-64 victory. After averaging 37 minutes in the wins last week, Sullinger has eight double-doubles for the 16-0 Buckeyes.

Purdue's Ryne Smith earns his first Big Ten Player of the Week honor after shooting 78.6 percent from beyond the arc and averaging a team-best 19.0 points per game in the Boilermakers' wins over Penn State and Iowa. Smith also averaged 3.5 rebounds per game on the week which tripled his career average of 1.0 per outing. The Toledo, Ohio, native opened the week with a career-high 20 points at Penn State, leading all scorers in the game. He was 5-of-5 from three-point range against the Nittany Lions, which tied the Purdue record for threes in a game without a miss. Against Iowa, Smith finished with a game-high 18 points on a career-high six triples. He also tied a career high with three assists.
