Iowa 2nd in Big Ten in NFL players
Mike Hlas Sep. 7, 2011 2:11 pm
More than Penn State, more than Michigan, more than Nebraska.
Iowa trails only Ohio State for players on active NFL rosters, and not by much.
Thanks to the legwork done by btn.com at this page, I have these numbers to share:
1. Ohio State – 35
2. Iowa – 31
3. Michigan – 26
T4. Nebraska – 25
T4. Penn State – 25
6. Illinois – 19
T7. Purdue – 18
T7. Wisconsin – 18
9. Michigan State – 16
10. Northwestern – 9
T11. Indiana – 6
T11. Minnesota – 6
These numbers seem to change every day, but Iowa's 31 was right as of 1:45 p.m., Wednesday. That doesn't count two players on injured reserve, Tony Moeaki and Eric Steinbach. They will miss the season.
Iowa also has two players on NFL practice squads, Allen Reisner and Matt Kroul.
Iowa ranks 8th overall. Miami (Fla.) leads with 42.
