IndyCar drivers don't doubt themselves
Mike Hlas Jun. 20, 2009 8:13 pm
Seepage problems on the Iowa Speedway track forced qualifying for Sunday's IndyCar Series race to be cancelled.
So, the starting grid was determined by season points. Funny, about every driver felt he or she could have qualified better than the place they were assigned.
Ed Carpenter (starting 13th): "I'm pretty confident we would have qualifed better than the points will allow us to start tomorrow's race, so it's disappointing."
Danica Patrick: "I wish we would've had a chance to get out and make a qualifying run, becuase I think we could've had a higher starting position than fifth."
Tony Kanaan: "I'm disappointed that we didn't get to qualify, because I'm positive we could've started higher than seventh."
Hideki Mutoh: "I'm disappointed that we are starting 12th, because I was confident we had a top-10 car."
Graham Rahal (starting 9th(: " I don't think we would be on pole, but I think the car would be starting significantly higher than our point standing."
Somebody would have been wrong.
By the way, it's too bad the time trials were cancelled. This would have been a much-better blog item if I'd had the chance to write about them.
She would have timed better than 5th ... or so she says
