I'm in Georgia, where college football is big, big, big

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- I was here for golf, but I read the newspapers. Always have. Probably always will, as long as such things exist.
So I read the account of the University of Georgia's spring football game, which was played Saturday. The crowd was 38,742. That's large.
Little more than an hour from here, South Carolina had its spring game Saturday. The estimated crowd was 22,000, and Steve Spurrier's Gamecocks are coming off a trip to the Papajohns.com Bowl, not a good bowl.
To the south, Florida State's announced crowd for its spring game was 51,300. Naturally, Florida's spring game crowd was estimated at 51,500.
North Carolina had 29,000, Clemson 27,000.
I'm not going to encourage Iowa fans to produced the same kind of crowd this Saturday for the Hawkeyes' final spring practice because the less traffic, the better. Especially when traffic control probably isn't in game-day form.
But if you don't have 30,000 people, don't brag about yourselves as great fans. You don't want these Southerners to laugh at you.
