Hlastradamus: Football handicapping without handicaps
Mike Hlas Oct. 23, 2009 7:15 pm
Hlastradamus was 3-2 last week. That's the prophet's third winning week out of the last four.
Click here for the appropriate response.
But a centuries-old sage can't live in the past. So on with this week's selections.
1. Iowa at Michigan State (pick 'em). This game is a coin-flip in the minds of Vegas sports books and Hlastradamus. The prophet does not decide things of such importance with a flip of a coin. Anyone want to play rock, paper, scissors?
THE REAL No. 1. Iowa State +19 at Nebraska. Sure, the Cyclones never fare well at Lincoln. But it's a lot of points, and Hlastradamus likes what Iowa State's offense is doing these days.
2. Michigan +4.5 vs. Penn State. On talent, go with Penn State. On home-stadium atmosphere, Michigan. On hunger, Michigan. On having a coach with more to gain and more to lose, Michigan.
3. Kansas +7.5 vs. Oklahoma. The Mighty H isn't sold on Kansas, but home underdogs have bite, and Sam Bradford is long gone to the Sooners.
4. Arizona -7 vs. UCLA. The Wildcats have averaged 38 points in Pac-10 play. Good luck keeping up with that, Bruins.
5. Arkansas State -10.5 vs. Florida International. Arkansas State has one win this season. So does FIU. Arkansas State has a better team. That is all the people need to know.
