From exclamation points to 'Going back to bed' -- Iowa football recruits react to National Signing Day
Mike Hlas Feb. 2, 2011 9:35 am
Welcome to University of Iowa football, 2011 signees.
Now get your Tweeting out of the way before you get to Iowa City. The head coach isn't big on you doing it once you're on campus.
It looks like many of the newest Hawkeyes, like about everyone else on Earth younger than Beano Cook, are fans of the social media service. Like linebacker Quinton Alston of Sicklerville, N.J., who Tweeted this Wednesday morning:
@Quinton2349 YUP ITS OFFICIAL IM A HAWKEYE BABY!!! BIG TENIS ABOUT TO RECOGNIZE THAT JERSEY TALENT!!! LOL
I like the "LOL." It tells me he might not be as puffy as the Tweet first indicates.
Then there's defensive back Torrey Campbell of Naples, Fla., who went the clearly humble route.
@TorreyCamp I want to thank everyone on twitter,I'm am so blessed! #m4l #gohawkeyes
By the way, Torrey, you're on Florida's Gulf Coast. Have you been watching Weather Channel in the last 24 hours? I'll tell you what, if you can talk a Florida kid into signing with any Midwest school this week, you can recruit.
Wide receiver Marcus Grant of North Carver, Mass. (Iowa's staff did some traveling to sign this class) is having about a low-key of a signing-day as any recruit in the nation.
@MgrantLA6 Going back to bed. Feel terrible, but oh so good at the same time! Caught a cold but am officially a #Hawkeye4life!
Allow me to interrupt this train of thought by saying I switched to ESPNU's all-day -- 10 hours -- of NSD coverage -- and I can't do it. I don't follow recruiting much, have never really enjoyed it outside of stories about the players who come from interesting faraway places like Montana and Las Vegas, and ... I just can't do it. NSD is not my Christmas. It's not even my Arbor Day.
Oh wait. Three of ESPN's top 4 players are still undeclared. Never mind, must keep watching.
