Fred Hoiberg gets a proven commodity in Bobby Lutz as an assistant basketball coach at Iowa State

Iowa State's men's basketball coaching staff got a whole lot more experienced this week.
Head coach Fred Hoiberg hired Bobby Lutz as an assistant. Lutz spent the last 12 years as the head coach of Charlotte, where he took the 49ers to five NCAA tourneys and three NITs.
Lutz, 52, got fired by Charlotte after last season. His record there was 218-158.
Twelve years is a long run, though, and someone who won more games than not in Conference USA and the Atlantic-10 conferences has to have something going for him.
The lack of coaching experience Hoiberg and his staff were mocked for in some circles should diminish with this hire. Lutz, 52, would seem to be a very good hire this late into the offseason.
