Four morning thoughts: Go Cardinals, Go Chaos!

1. I hope the St. Louis Cardinals win the World Series. Again.

I'm not a Cardinals fan, but it would be wonderful because it would fluster so many people. The team with MLB's 12th-best record wins it all, a year after it won it all with the 8th-best record in the bigs.

It also would fluster American Big Media, ESPN in particular. What do you do with a team from St. Louis? Again? What do you do with a team without a LeBron or Tebow or anybody with the Big Personality? Chris Carpenter doesn't move their personality-driven needle. Neither does David Freese or Carlos Beltran or Yadier Molina. They just play ball, and play it to win.

And Mark McGwire is the Cardinals' hitting coach, so there's a still a link to baseball's glorious Steroids Era.

2. Oregon is at Arizona State tonight on ESPN, and that should be fun.

Oregon averages 52.3 points, Arizona State 40.5. Oregon averages 541.67 yards, ASU 479.

But the Sun Devils are eighth in the nation in total defense, and Oregon's D isn't horrid at 43rd.

It sure beats the Connecticut-Syracuse game on ESPN Friday night. Or the Seahawks-49ers game tonight.

3. I like chaos when no one is in any real danger, I like anger when it's over something trivial, like sports.

Thus, I'm all for two SEC teams meeting in the BCS title game again, just to see if Congress steps in, or if college football's lords step in and somehow cut a deal to push the four-team playoff up a year to 2013.

I know you'll disagree, but man, it would be funny if LSU wins out (its game at Texas A&M Saturday will be plenty tough), including a narrow win over Alabama, and the national-title game ends up being LSU vs. Alabama, again.

There are way too many variables this time around, though, starting with the fact LSU already has one loss, to Florida.

Hey, LSU could lose Saturday at Texas A&M.

4. Wouldn't you love to stand in a tunnelway leading into the stands at Northwestern's stadium Saturday?

Nebraska fans make their first trip to Northwestern. They get to Ryan Field and ask "Where's the real stadium? This can't be it."

After being assured it is, they enter the 86-year-old venue and ask an usher "Come on, where's the real stadium?"

The game is a sellout. It's the first time Nebraska has played at Northwestern since a 19-7 defeat to the Wildcats in 1931. Just how many people will wear red and how many will wear purple is the question.

The important thing, as you can tell by this link, is that Northwestern's players get in a good nap Saturday morning.
