First offer wins over Illinois DE

Lane Tech defensive end Louis Trinca-Pasat committed to play football at the University of Iowa, according to Saturday's Chicago Sun-Times.

Trinca-Pasat, a 6-2-, 230-pound D-lineman, picked the Hawkeyes over offers from Michigan State, Wisconsin, Stanford, Colorado and Illinois. In the end, Trinca-Pasat received eight offers, quite a feat for a relative newbie. He didn't start playing football until high school.

"Iowa was my first trip. I attended their junior day and they offered me before I left campus. The coaches said I hustled and I was athletic on the defensive side of the ball," Trinca-Pasat told the Sun-Times. "It was shocking to get an offer. I didn't know what to say. I was speechless."

Trinca-Pasat told Rivals.com that he plans to graduate at mid-semester from Lane Tech and enroll at Iowa in January. He also plans to play football in Australia this summer.

Trinca-Pasat is Iowa's fifth verbal commitment for the 2010 recruiting class. He joins LB James Morris -- who was voted named linebacker MVP of the Nike camp/combine in Champaign, Ill., this weekend, according to HawkeyeReport's Tom Kakert -- LB Austin Gray, LB Jim Poggi and DT Anthony Ferguson.

Iowa now has five defensive recruits in a class that will range from 15 to 20.
