CROJGA names golfers of year

Mitch Willems and Lisa Olberding were named the 15-year-old golfers of the year by the Cedar Rapids Optimist Junior Golf Association.

Brent Larson and Kristen Harding were the 13-14 winners, Brock Barnhart the 11-12 boys' honoree and Drew Muilenburg and Rylee Goodfellow the 8-10 picks.

C.R. Fire wins E state

CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids Fire won the ASA Class E state softball tournament last weekend at the Tait Cummins Sports Complex.

C.R. Fire went 6-0 in the tournament, beating ABT of Cedar Rapids for the title. Pro Tow/Yardstixx of Cedar Rapids finished fourth.

C.R. Fire outfielder Sid Beck was named most valuable player and teammates Zac Hornung, Justin Jenney, Brady Fisher and Marshall Mollenhauser made the all-tournament team.

Rissler wins Iowa Game gold

CEDAR RAPIDS - Aidan Rissler of Mount Vernon won the 9-year-old novice class at the Iowa Games BMX races at Cheyenne Park.
