Linn-Mar, Tipton win state basketball titles
Ten Iowa youth basketball teams - including Tipton is sixth-grade girls and Linn-Mar in sixth-grade boys - won Pacesetter Iowa state championships recently in Cedar Falls and Ankeny.
Other girls' champions were Cedar Falls (fifth grade), Pella (seventh), Waverly-Shell Rock (eighth) and Okoboji (ninth). Ames (fifth grade), Cedar Falls (seventh), Pella (eighth) and Ankeny (ninth grade) won boys' state championships.
The Tipton girls' knocked off Decatur Central, 22-19, for the state championship. Linn-Mar finished second in the eighth-grade girls' division, losing 29-25 to Waverly-Shell Rock, and Cascade finished third.
Linn-Mar downed Cedar Rapids for the boys' sixth-grade title.
Linn-Mar placed third in the eight-grade division and Cascade took third in the ninth-grade field.
3 from CRAG win Xcel titles
Meghan Ulmer, Mikayla Glovik and Amyah Arrington of the Cedar Rapids Association of Gymnastics won titles at the Xcel Invitational recently.
Ulmer won the beam and all-around, Glovik the beam and floor exercise and Arrington the vault, beam and all-around.
Kiran Misra and Cheyanna Cooling of CRAG were plaewinners.
