Team STRIKE captures medals
Ali Omar, Ali Ali Musa, Hamza Omar and Agniezska Sawko of Team STRIKE won gold in the tae kwon do competition of the Iowa Games.
Omar, of Iowa City, won the Olympic sparring junior boys' black belt division and also captured silver in Muay Thai kickboxing.
Musa, a West H.S. student, won the junior boys' Olympic sparring green belt division and Omar, the coach at STRIKE, won gold in men's black belt forms. Sawko won the women's green belt Olympic sparring.
Juana Duplat Castaneda won silver, along with Braden Haas, Abdullah Khwossah, Eric Kruse and Ahmed Noureldaem.
Fatimah Omar took home a bronze medal, as did Eric Kruse, Nick Kruse, Jake Kruse and Jaden Urquardt.
C.R.'s Nassif wins in wrestling
Jonah Nassif, a Cedar Rapids Prairie wrestler, brought home the gold medal in the 120-pound weight division.
He recorded two pins and won the championship bout with a major decision.
C.R.'s Posekany wins in hoops
Denny Posekany of Cedar Rapids won gold in the men's 60-69 basketball shootout and free throw competitions.
